1What you’re seeing
No one warned me that Bernedoodles run on what appears to be unlimited espresso.
Every evening, Mike decides that…we still have to chase each other around the park in the dark.
She is running around all over the place all the time…
2Why it happens
A walk before work and another after it isn’t enough for a dog built to run all day. What tires a dog like that is play with other dogs who can keep up, for as long as they want it. Here’s the thing about arousal in dogs: it’s contagious. One dog wound up past their limit can set off the whole room, and a dog who spends the day over-amped goes home wired instead of pleasantly tired.
Dogs are great at regulating their own energy level.
3What we do
- Active dogs go with dogs who play like they do. Laid-back dogs get a calmer room.
- Real dog play is wrestling, chasing, bowing — and cuddling and resting when needed — with “referees of play” always nearby.
- We keep the group balanced and calm. Play happens naturally, and dogs can also rest and just watch for a while — a dog observing from the sidelines is engaged and learning, not missing out.
- Watch your dog live on mobile or desktop.
4What changes
Often from the first day: they come home tired, and the evening is yours again.
But when he gets back from Happy Dogs, he’s usually like a person after a long day of work.
…he will be so tired from playing all day that he will sleep from 6 or 7 p.m. until the next morning.
…the only evenings he sleeps all night are the nights he goes to Happy dogs.
